IOM Fiji Signs Its First Climate Catalytic Fund Contract on the Margins of the Pre-COP

A new partnership to strengthen community-led disaster preparedness in Fiji was formalised on 7 October 2026, with the signing of a project between the Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on the margins of Pre-COP in Nadi. The project was developed through an application to the Climate Catalytic Fund (CCF), developed by IOM’s Climate Mobility Innovation Lab (CMIL), and is grounded in the Risk Index for Climate Displacement (RICD). Funded through the IOM Development Fund, the initiative will strengthen the capacity of District Council Of Social Services (DCOSS) volunteers across the Nadi to Tavua flood corridor through practical training in flood preparedness, risk assessment, early warning, evacuation planning and first aid, helping communities reduce displacement risks and build longer-term resilience. It was attended by IOM Regional Director for Asia Pacific Mr. Iori Kato, Chief of Mission for Fiji and Sub Regional Coordinator Mr. Solomon Kantha, and Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS) Executive Director Ms. Vani Catanasiga and FCOSS Board Members and IOM  Staff.
