CMIL Africa Presents Its Work to Donors and Partners at AidEx Nairobi 2026

The head of the International Organization for Migration's Climate Mobility Innovation Lab (CMIL) Africa met partners and donors at AidEx Nairobi 2026 to present the Lab's work on climate-related mobility across the continent.

Claus Hansen, who leads CMIL Africa, held a series of meetings during the two-day conference and exhibition, which took place on 3–4 June at the Safari Park Hotel. The discussions centred on the Lab's ongoing work and on opportunities for collaboration.

AidEx Nairobi drew more than 500 aid and development professionals from East Africa and beyond, including representatives of UN agencies, donors, Red Cross societies, international and local NGOs, community-based organizations and the private sector.

This year's edition looked at how the sector can adapt to tighter resources and a shifting aid landscape. Sessions examined scalable, locally led innovation, partnerships with private, philanthropic and public actors, and new financing models. The agenda also covered anticipatory action and disaster risk financing, locally led pooled funds, and the integration of water, food security and climate resilience programming.

Those themes sit close to CMIL's own focus. The Lab develops and tests innovative approaches to help communities and governments in Africa anticipate, manage and adapt to the movement of people linked to climate change.

First held in 2014 as a satellite of the AidEx event in Europe, AidEx Nairobi focuses on aid and development within Africa. The next edition is scheduled for 2–3 June 2027.

CMIL plans to follow up on the conversations with partners and donors in the coming months.
