Climate Catalytic Fund Launches in Vanuatu

On 31 May 2026, the Climate Catalytic Fund (CCF) completed its first call for applications and outreach in Sanma and Penama provinces. Both provinces were identified as high-risk locations by the Risk Index for Climate Displacement (RICD), in consultation with Vanuatu's Department of Climate Change. The call invited communities in these climate-vulnerable areas to submit locally led initiatives that reduce the risk of climate-induced displacement and strengthen resilience before risks escalate into crises.

To help communities prepare their applications, IOM Vanuatu delivered climate mobility trainings and carried out community outreach. In both provinces, the IOM team worked with local representatives to hold information sessions and application help desks, deepening engagement with communities and building their capacity to design and submit locally led proposals.

These efforts generated 27 applications across the two provinces. Three initiatives have been selected for CCF support, while a further four have been identified as high-potential projects and added to the pipeline, pending funding. The proposals span agriculture, infrastructure, water supply and flood management. Several have the potential to scale up into investment-ready, bankable projects for larger climate funds.
